Victoria's Blog: A New Year-new goals
The first week of January has taken a little bit of getting used to my old routine, because I’ve been in winter break mode for a few weeks now. One of my goals this year is to really try to get ahead in school. Since I’m home-schooled it’s something that can be achieved. I’ll just have to work harder. I’m also going to try to take as many dance classes as I can, for exercise and because I really love to dance. We had daily dance rehearsals on Spectacular, and I didn’t want them to end. My Spectacular co-star Simon Curtis and I would practice the routines in our hotel rooms all the time. We have some great videos from those rehearsals, that when the time is right, I’ll put them up on my youtube channel.
Right now I’m learning how to play “Claire de Lune” on the piano. It’s a really difficult piece, so I’m practicing every day, (I fell in love with the song when I went to see Twilight). A new goal is to also start to write songs. I’ve also have started to compose a new song on the piano that I really like. I will also be experimenting with recording in the studio with different types of songs this year. I am really excited about that. I recorded three original songs for Spectacular, (they were duets with Simon Curtis), and I had so much fun doing it. At 1st, I was really nervous, because I had never done anything like that, (I had been in a studio once before and recorded a little demo titled “Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton, but never original music and not for a movie). Once I started working with the sound engineer, all the nervousness just left and it was like I had been doing it for a long time. I absolutely loved it. It was a great experience.
Music has always been one of my great loves. I’ve been singing as long as I can remember, (not professionally, but just because I loved it). My Uncle Joey was a singer and a musician, and whenever we would go to listen to him play at different restaurants, he would bring me up to the mic and we would sing together. One of my earliest memories would be us singing “My Girl” by the Temptations when I was about 3 1/2 years or 4 years old. My mom also is a huge music lover and has introduced me to so many great artists from all different genres of music from when I was really little. I was also accepted into a musical theater program in middle school, (I was 11 years old), and had chorus everyday, and everyday we would train. It was then, after learning how to sing correctly and receiving some training, that I discovered I could really sing. One of my favorite parts of chorus was doing harmonies. Till this day my best friend Audrey and I still do harmonies whenever we’re together. What can I say, we’re music nerds!
